De’Vonna Pittman Announces Impressive Level of Support Across Hennepin County
(New Hope, MN) — De’Vonna Pittman continued her strong run for Hennepin County Commissioner by announcing an impressive list of supporters today.
“I am honored by the support these community leaders are providing our campaign. Having these relationships will help me lead the fight to make sure Hennepin County is putting people first,” said Pittman.
Current Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley stated, “De’Vonna understands the challenges that many Hennepin County residents face. She has navigated Hennepin County’s intricate systems as both client and staff member. A community advocate, businesswoman, and 18-year public servant at Hennepin County; De’Vonna’s lived experience has prepared her to lead.”
As an established community leader and entrepreneur, De’Vonna has years of experience bringing community members, government officials, and business leaders together. Her unique set of experiences has prepared her to be a champion for the Blue Line expansion that helps communities along the line thrive without displacing the people who make the neighborhoods special.
As former Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin said, “The light rail extension into Brooklyn Park and the northwestern suburbs is absolutely needed and long overdue. I know De’Vonna to be someone who will take charge of this project and will not stop until it’s done.”
To support her vision, Pittman has been building a network of support including Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and over a dozen current state legislators from the area, along with former Hennepin County Commissioners Linda Higgins, Mark Andrew, and Richard Miller. She is also supported by an array of labor organizations and is the DFL endorsed candidate for District 1.
“I understand that to get things done in Hennepin County you need to know how to build relationships, be able to work across the aisle, and leverage resources from the local, state, and federal level to make sure families in Hennepin County have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive,” said Pittman.
This network of support will be critical for tackling public safety issues, an area Pittman has studied extensively while receiving her Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. As Rep. Samantha Vang said, “I look forward to working with De’Vonna to bring meaningful reform to police accountability and to improve the dialogue between law enforcement and our communities.”
